Ride your own Sea-Doo jet ski from the City Botanic Gardens River Hub, past the Brisbane CBD skyline, the Story Bridge and the Gateway Bridge, then out into Moreton Bay in under 30 minutes for a chance to spot dolphins and turtles. No license or riding experience is needed, and a guide leads the group the whole way.

Overview

This is a shared-group jet ski safari, not a private charter: up to 10 riders head out together behind a professional guide. You start on the Brisbane River in the city center, riding past riverside mansions and under two of the city's landmark bridges, before the route opens up into Moreton Bay itself, where dolphins and turtles are a real possibility on a good day. The whole outing, briefing to return, runs about three hours.

Itinerary

  1. Meet at the City Botanic Gardens River Hub, on the corner of Edward and Alice Streets, and get a safety briefing and jet ski orientation before setting off.
  2. Ride down the Brisbane River past the CBD skyline, the Story Bridge, the Gateway Bridge and riverside mansions on the way out of the city.
  3. Continue into Moreton Bay, watching for dolphins and turtles, before the guide leads the group back to the River Hub.

Expect a shared-group ride rather than a private one: bookings run with up to ten travellers on the water together behind one guide. The tour is not recommended for pregnant travelers or those with back or heart problems, and it depends on river and sea conditions, so a weather cancellation means a rescheduled date rather than a refund on the day.

Brisbane Jet Ski Safari Insider Notes

Best Time for the Safari

Bay conditions and wildlife sightings change through the Brisbane year.

Season Months The Experience The Trade-off
Summer Surge Dec – Feb The best chance of flat, warm water for the run out into the bay. Intense sun on the open water; sunscreen is not supplied, so bring your own.
Whale Window June – Oct A chance of spotting migrating whales further out in the bay. Cooler mornings on the river; dress for wind chill on the jet ski.
Autumn Glide March – May Clearer water for spotting turtles and dolphins near the surface. Shifting tides can change the exact route your guide takes into the bay.
